CitiPark customer delighted to receive bitcoin in their parking change
A customer of leading car park operator, CitiPark, was surprised and delighted to receive a bitcoin in their change when paying for their parking yesterday at CitiPark’s flagship car park, the Merrion Centre and First Direct Arena Leeds.
Olaf Lipro, 42 from Harrogate, (pictured below, next to the pay station machine that dispensed the bitcoin) was paying for parking after visiting the Merrion Centre to buy a birthday present for his mother.
He was so surprised to find the bitcoin (which is worth around £5,844) among the change dispensed by the machine that he decided to take a photo of his discovery, to post on social media.
Olaf commented: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the bitcoin amongst the change that came out of the parking machine! I’ve heard people talking about bitcoin but never seen any up close before! I took a photo to prove that it’s real and I’m going to spend it on a round of drinks at the pub when I meet up with some friends tonight – happy days!”
Ben Ziff, Managing Director of CitiPark, added: “We’re as surprised as Olaf was to hear that he received bitcoin in the change that came out of that particular pay station. We obviously know that there is bitcoin circulating in the UK, but this is the first time that a customer has reported receiving any in the change from one of our pay stations. We wish him all the best and hope he enjoys spending or saving it!”
