Celebrating The Merrion Centre's 50th Birthday
This May, the Merrion Centre celebrates its 50th birthday. Back in 1964, it was the largest indoor shopping centre in the UK when it opened its doors and it's now become one of Leeds' most iconic retail destinations.
To celebrate the Merrion Centre's 50th anniversary, there will be a whole host of activities across the day on 26th May from 12-5pm. There will be a stage with singers and dancers entertaining shoppers throughout the day, not forgetting the arrival of Peppa Pig to delight the younger shoppers! As well as this, there'll be balloon modelling, resident face painter, magician, and a caricaturist. Not forgetting £1000 of free giveaways, First Direct Arena VIP concert tickets, beauty treatments, and much more.
CEO of the Merrion Centre and TCS PLC, Edward Ziff said, “We are delighted to offer this day of non-stop entertainment and we're inviting everyone to join in the birthday bash. We're honoured to cater for such a diverse range of customers; from students and commuters to our loyal shoppers who have shopped here for most of their lives. We want to celebrate our customers, as much as our heritage, so as well as providing a fun day for them, we have been running a raft of competitions and initiatives, leading up to our anniversary. We've been moved by how many people have wanted to share with us their stories about the Centre, so we've created a dedicated Merrion Memories section in the Centre, in honour of our last 50 years.â€
There will also be the unveiling of a special commemorative piece of artwork at 2pm by Edward Ziff. Here at CitiPark, we'll be offering free car parking for the first 50 cars from 12pm at the Merrion Centre car park.
