Catch them at Watford Colosseum on 15 June.
5. Swinging at The Cotton Club
The Cotton Club was the hottest nightclub in Harlem NY during the 1920s and ‘30s, and now, it’s come to Watford!
Step back in time for an evening of action-packed music and dance with songs from The Cotton Club. Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller were all regulars in the club back in the day and would’ve had people in attendance swinging all night long.
Swinging at The Cotton Club recreates this fantastic time of dance and music. Jiving Lindy Hoppers, the world’s premier jazz dance company, provide the moves. Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra, featuring vocalist Marlene Hill and compere/vocalist Megs Etherington provide the grooves.
If you’re even a tiny bit interested in big band swing music then this is a must see!
‘The London-based Jiving Lindy Hoppers worked themselves and their unbuttoned audience into a fine lather … their collective performances manage to retain the wholly spontaneous, improvisatory, uninhibited spirit of swing dance in its heyday’ The Washington Post
