Leeds Half Marathon tours the city this weekend
Sunday 12 May sees the second annual Leeds Half Marathon kick off in the city centre, raising money for numerous charities.
The 13 mile race starts on the Headrow before taking a route through Headingley, Meanwood, Weetwood, West Park and Kirkstall before heading back to the finish line at Millenium Square.
The half marathon is organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All and is Yorkshire’s biggest hospice run. Runners are encouraged to run for their own chosen charity.
6000 runners will warm up at around 8.40am with the race due to begin at 9.30am. Elite runners will set off at the start of the race at Victoria Gardens with slower runners, joggers, walkers and those in fancy dress following behind. The event has already sold out for eager participants of all ages to raise funds for their chosen charities.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Ann Castle, has said “I am delighted to welcome all runners, their friends and family, race officials and the large number of volunteers to Leeds for the 2013 Leeds Half Marathon, and what I am sure will be a very enjoyable and rewarding day.”
“Inspiring people to participate in physical activity and sporting events is a key aim of the London 2012 legacy and something we are extremely passionate about here in Leeds.”
There will be total and partial road closures in place within the city centre and throughout the half marathon route. Details of road closures on the day can be found here.
Our car park at the Merrion Centre is perfectly located for Leeds Half Marathon parking – or if you fancy a warm up, you could park at Whitehall Road or Clarence Dock and jog to the starting line!
