Manchester Celebrates Chinese New Year 2014
Dates: 30 January to 2 February, 2014
Towards the end of January Manchester will celebrate the Chinese New Year 2014 as the city stages the North's biggest Chinese New Year party.
Known across Europe as one of the biggest, Chinatown's celebrations allow Manchester residents and tourists to see in the Chinese New Year in style.
The start of the “Year of the Horse' will see the Chinatown district (which is tucked behind Piccadilly Gardens) mark the event with thousands of Chinese lanterns and bright red decorations in the streets. With events kicking off from 18 January with the lantern celebration, St. Ann's Square will host a Chinese food market with Chinatown's best restaurants offering up their cuisine.
Manchester's art scene will also mark the start of the Chinese New Year with the Northern Quarter's Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art who have commissioned local illustrator Lydia Meiying to craft a horse-themed installation piece (14 January – 10 February).
