Leshurr's Unique, Tongue-Twisting Style and Hilarious Lyrics Have Raised the Bar for Female Rap Artists the World Over
The MOBO Awards 2015 are just around the corner and it’s all set to be an incredible evening at the first direct arena celebrating world-class musical talent. Throughout the build-up, we’re shining the spotlight on some of this year’s top acts…
Born and raised in the West Midlands, 26-year-old Grime/Hip Hop artist Lady Leshurr has been spitting fire on the mic for over half a decade. But it’s over the last twelve months Leshurr has rocketed to internet stardom, sending a global audience crazy for her Queen Speech series.
Her most recent instalment – Queen Speech Ep.4 – went viral within a week and currently totals over 8 million views on YouTube. It’s also enjoyed significant air time on media outlets BBC Radio 1, Capital FM and 1Xtra, not to mention US station Kiss FM.
Over the years, Leshurr has enjoyed working with the likes of Fatman Scoop, Tinie Tempah and Gyptian. She’s carefully built up a solid social media presence, garnering a super-loyal fan base known affectionately as her ‘Shurrporters’. As a result, she’s gone on to perform in front of hundreds of thousands of people alongside Ciara, Azealia Banks, Skepta and Busta Rhymes, to name but a few.
Dubbed as ‘one to watch’ by The Guardian’s Paul Lester, Leshurr’s unique, tongue-twisting style and hilarious lyrics have raised the bar for female rap artists the world over. Her lyrically-loaded song Shurraq even gives Hip Hop superstar Nicki Minaj a run for her money.
Nominated for Best Hip Hop Act at this year’s MOBOs, she’s currently in the studio with hit producers Timbaland and Will Simms. Given what we’ve seen so far, we’re sure Lady Leshurr has some very exciting projects in the pipeline.
