Merrion Centre Car Park's £250,000 investment works a treat for Arena users
A quarter of a million pound investment in a new car parking management system by Leeds' car park operator, CitiPark (CitiPark), enabled fans of US rock star Bruce Springsteen to have a trouble free start to their journey home when leaving the Merrion Centre multi-storey car park after the opening concert at the new First Direct Arena last night.
The new state-of-the-art system, installed last week, allowed the 1,000 space car park to be cleared within half an hour, avoiding lengthy queues for car users at the end of the evening.
The Merrion Centre car park in the Arena Quarter in Leeds city centre is the closest car park to the First Direct Arena and one of only two official City Council approved car parks in Leeds. It is also one of the most affordable places to park a car in Leeds city centre with a flat rate of £5 per car from 6pm – 2am.
The newly introduced vehicle registration recognition system also helps customers with lost tickets, allowing them to just pay for the time they'd used the car park for, rather than the full day rate.
The car park has eight pay stations all of which accept all notes up to £20 as well as credit and debit cards and 14 staff are on hand to help customers.
Ben Ziff, Managing Director of CitiPark (CitiPark) said: “The new parking system is the most advanced installation in Leeds allowing us to give our customers the best possible experience. As the Merrion Centre car park is the nearest multi-storey car park to the First Direct Arena, we have worked in partnership with Leeds City Council to ensure we deliver a first class visitor experience to Arena users. Introducing the latest contactless and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) camera technology to the Merrion car park means car users can access and exit the car park without having to wind down their window. We are really pleased how well the system performed last night.
