Here are a few of our picks for 2015:
The European Capital of Culture 2023 Decision
Will Leeds be voted as the European Capital of Culture for 2023? There’s been a lot of talk as to whether the city is going to put itself forward for the 2023 award and 2015 finally sees the decision being made. Will Leeds make the cut? If it does, it’ll undoubtedly be another exciting chapter for the city.
The Rugby World Cup 2015 comes to Leeds
2015 sees the Rugby World Cup being hosted in England and Leeds is lucky enough to be amongst one of the host cities. Elland Road will be home to Italy v Canada and Scotland v USA bringing some eagerly anticipated rugby action to Leeds.
The Arena Quarter continues to grow
With a whole host of restaurants and retailers opening in 2014, the Arena Quarter is going to continue to grow throughout 2015. On course to be completed in Autumn, the new £32m Hilton hotel is a highly anticipated addition to this new bustling area of the city. Boasting 206 guest rooms and suites, a ‘destination’ restaurant, gym, and a rooftop bar where visitors will be able to see panoramic views of the city.
The new Leeds Train Station entrance
2015 also sees the opening of the new southern entrance to the Leeds Train Station, providing rapid access for commuters working in the Granary Wharf, Holbeck, and Bridgewater Place area of the city. As well as saving time and improving facilities, the new entrance aims to boost the local economy in this area of the city. A Network Rail spokesperson explained “The enhanced footfall the new entrance will generate will propagate further value for the existing leisure businesses in Granary Wharf whilst supporting opportunities for new ventures and a broadening of the service offer in the area.”
